Hugs For Healing Flight to Iraq 2011

In September 2010, FUTURE escorted a group of Gold Star Moms to northern Iraq to meet with Iraqi Kurdish, Shia, and Sunni women on a humanitarian aid service project. This unprecedented event shattered many beliefs culturally, and broke the boundaries of non-trust which enabled the women who participated to make steps toward nation building through the power of women initiatives and serving together. The attributes of compassion, communication, and healing that naturally fosters reconciliation cross all boarders when it comes to Mothers and their concern for the well being of their families.

It was an amazing trip, and we want to do it again with another group of Gold Star Moms next fall
in 2011.

To this end, FUTURE is planning a special evening Gala fundraiser on 18 March 2011 at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Greenville, South Carolina featuring celebrities from Nashville. Surrounding this Gala fundraiser, FUTURE is also sponsoring a singer and songwriter workshop and competition for up and coming music industry hopefuls on 16 & 17 March, also at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.



These events also called “The Nashville Connection – Heroes Salute” (www.thenashvilleconnection.com), will bring top music industry professionals from Nashville together with prominent Upstate, South Carolina music professionals to critique and instruct the Southeast’s most promising up and coming singers, songwriters, and bands.

The proceeds from these events—the workshop, competition, and Gala fundraiser—will support FUTURE's Gold Star Moms’ Hugs for Healing flights to Iraq, the USO Operation Enduring Care Program for Wounded Warriors and their Families, and each Gala ticket holder will be asked to bring a new toy for the Marine Corps “Toys for Tots” drive.
